Lot 1316
1867 Issue "Sellschopp" Imitations Assortment, six singles and two blocks in a variety of colors, fresh and very fine, these items were first reported in 1936
Wilhelm Sellschopp established himself as a philatelic dealer and auctioneer in Hamburg, Germany in the late 19th century. He also operated an outlet in San Francisco where in addition to buying and selling stamps, he published stamp catalogs and booklets. In "Egypt, Stamps and Postal History" (1999), Peter Smith suggests these imitations were produced in the US and not Germany and possibly not by Mr Sellschopp.
