red rate handstamp in circle (Clarke 502, Type IV) on incoming folded letter from Cadiz, Spain datelined January 21, 1813, endorsed "pr Brig Ranger", very fine, the letter from James Crawford begins "I informed you by the Ann Maria for Phila of my arrival here & the state of the market", according to the New-York Evening Post of March 10, the Ranger "passed through a squadron of several sail off the Chesapeake", an interesting War of 1812 cover
