black double octagon rate handstamp with matching straightline "Ship" (Clarke 538, 555) on incoming folded letter from Bradford, England dated January 3, 1854 (letter erroneously states 1853), endorsed "p City of Glasgow", fine, the "6" in double octagon is scarcer in black than blue, just two months after this letter was sent the City of Glasgow was lost at sea with 480 on board
