manuscript postmark on 1837 folded letter, manuscript “25” rate crossed out and replaced with “On public service”, addressed to General Nathan Towson in Washington, DC, very fine, the use of the letter “O” in this postmark has been the subject of speculation and has never been definitely explained, it most likely derives from the original French spelling “Ouisconsin”, ex-Risvold
