wonderful collection mounted on homemade pages, begins with trial color proof in violet on wove (40TC5), continues with 37 used singles, a used pair and strip of three, and 14 covers, all plated and with illustrations or descriptions of notable features (many plated by Mark Friedman), we note many different recuts, double transfers, flaws, and other noteworthy varieties, better items including Type II with red cancel (scissor-cut perforations) and Type IV on cover, mostly fine to very fine, an exceptional collection which warrants a close look from the specialist in this issue
tied by black "Paid" in grid to illustrated advertising cover for "Holden, Cutter & Co., Importers of Fancy Goods and Toys...Extensive Dealers in Fire Works, of all descriptions" with a beautiful design of a Fourth of July fireworks celebration, red Boston datestamp, reverse with large illustration of ship offloading toys at a warehouse, very fine and choice, a rare early fireworks advertising cover
