Feb 21" datestamp, addressed to Wilmington, Ohio, lengthy enclosure with interesting contents about life in territorial Washington, adhesive tape residue at top, otherwise extremely fine and rare, Steilacoom was the first post office established in Washington Territory

approximately 2,100 stamps primarily arranged by cancellation type, mostly ungrilled but a few grilled stamps interspersed, note multiplies including strips and blocks up to eight, pre-printing folds, double perforation varieties, colored cancellations (including green, orange, ultramarine, violet, etc), fancy cancellations such as anchors, stars, shields, and letters/numbers, "Paid" handstamps, and much more, the vast majority of cancellations fall into the target and grid families but a close inspection will undoubtedly find many Skinner-Eno listed designs, some mixed condition but most cancellations fine to very fine or better, simply an extraordinary collection which would take ages to duplicate, for the student of 1860s cancellations this lot is an ideal research project in the making, view scans to appreciate
approximately 94 covers, better items throughout including advertising for "Dodge, Stevenson & Co. Ohio Mower" and "A.F. Croskey Distiller of Alcohol, Pure Spirts & Whiskies", fancy cancels including Jersey Shore star in circle and New Bedford cogwheel, hotel cornercards including Astor House (New York), Delavan House (Albany), and Charleston Hotel, hand-illustrated horse-drawn coach, colored envelopes including magenta, cover front only with 1c and 24c stamps to Germany, mourning covers, Western Maryland Railroad cover, and much more, small faults to be expected but overall a wonderful group for further research or resale
