manuscript notation on incoming cover to Charleston, South Carolina, pencil "Sep 28" docketing, very fine and rare Confederate blockade-run ship letter, the addressee, Major Edward McCrady, enrolled in June 1861 and was appointed Major of his regiment that December, he was wounded during Second Manassas in August 1862, he later served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1880 to 1890

bold black strike of Charleston "6" rate handstamp on cover from Tours, France, very fine, carried by Cunard's Persia from Liverpool to New York, then Cunard's Corsica to Nassau, and finally blockade-runner Syren departing Nassau August 31 to Charleston arriving September 4, contains letter numbers 48 and 49 from the Burckmyer correspondence, Burckmyer was probably a shareholder in the Charleston Importing & Exporting Co. which owned the Syren, ex-Birkinbine
