center stamp in mint block of nine (positions 15-17, 25-27, 35-37), red brown overprint, stage V (14.Bb), other varieties include position 27 with second and third "As" defective in left "Panama" (14.7), position 25 with third "A" short at top in left "Panama" (14.9), position 27 with "N" with thick left stroke in (right) "Panama" (14.10, should be position 26 but overprint is shifted), position 35 with "8" in Type B (14.12), positions 16, 26, and 36 with one "Panama" (14.14), and positions 17, 27, and 37 with two "Panamas" close together (14.15), very fine, a spectacular block, only 10 examples of "Canal" in antique type were produced with the red brown overprint, the other varieties make this a truly interesting and scarce item, 1969 APEX certificate (Scott $2,030 for 14d plus eight normal singles)

mint left margin block of 25 (positions 21-25/61-65), carmine overprint, stage I (14.Aa), varieties including "A L" of "Canal" spaced 2mm at position 41 (14.1), second and third "As" defective in left "Panama" at position 22 (14.7), "M" tall, thin, and without serifs in left "Panama" at position 41 (14.8), third "A" short at top in left "Panama" at position 25 (14.9a), "8" in Type B at positions 35 and 41-44 (14.12), and "8" in Type C at position 51 (14.13), some perforations separated or reinforced, very fine and scarce (Scott $760 as singles)

collection of 21 singles and nine blocks of four (plus several pairs and strips), mostly mint, neatly and meticulously annotated with varieties and flaws, every stamp identified by stage and position, we note CZSG-listed varieties including right "Panama" 5mm below bar (14.6), first and second "As" small in right "Panama" (14.7), "M" tall, think, and without serifs in left "Panama" (14.8), short "A" at top in left "Panama" (14.9a), "N" with thick left stroke in right "Panama" (14.10a), "8" in Type B (14.12), "8" in Type C (14.13), overprint split horizontally (14.16a), and bar at bottom (14.17), generally fine to very fine, an extraordinary holding for the specialist in this issue (Scott $1,350 for nine normal mint blocks, not counting the singles and varieties)
