Our June sales include Part IX of the "Erivan" Collection of United and Confederate States Postal History and a catalogue of Canal Zone stamps and covers featuring the collections of James W. Crumpacker and Paul F. Ammons.
mint block of four (positions 78-79, 88-89), position 78 with inverted "V" for "A" and raised "N" in left "Panama", position 89 with inverted "N" in left "Panama", exceptionally bright and fresh, an attractive and rare first issue multiple, very fine and choice in all regards (Scott $2,600 as singles)
used single (position 34), right "Panama" with inverted "V" and third "A" accented, very fine, 1989 PSE certificate (Scott $400)
used single (position 42), right "Panama" with two inverted "Vs" for "As", very fine, 1969 APS certificate (Scott $400)
mint single, position 23, disturbed gum, otherwise fresh and fine, 1991 Philatelic Foundation certificate (Scott $1,000)
mint top left corner margin block of four (positions 1-2, 11-12), top left stamp the variety, couple hinge reinforcements and tear in selvage only, fine appearance, just 50 examples of this variety were produced, signed Perry and 1994 Philatelic Foundation certificate (Scott $2,700 as singles)
mint block of four (positions 47-48, 57-58), bright and fresh, small hinge remnant, very fine and rare multiple, only 260 pairs were possible but many have since been broken up (Scott $4,200 as two pairs)
mint block of six (positions 83-85, 93-95) with bottom three stamps the variety, additionally position 83 with inverted "V" as first "A" in left "Panama", very fine and choice, an important first issue block, only two other blocks of six are known with just three larger multiples, ex-DeVoss and Plass, illustrated in Canal Zone Philatelist Vol. 7, No. 3 (Scott $4,050 as singles)
