approximately 95 covers from the 1870s through 1970s, first half consists of incoming foreign mail charged postage due, several depreciated currency markings, incoming from England, Sweden, France, Slovakia, Denmark, and more, note 1926 Montgomery Ward return card from Nigeria, second half of the collection is outgoing postage due mail with destinations including Japan, England, Germany, and Italy, some mixed condition to be expected with such well-travelled covers, a wonderful collection for the specialist
red rate handstamp on drop letter datelined "Aurora Oct 26th 1850", carried to Chicago where it was mailed, very fine and early drop letter, contains an order for lumber from J.L. Hanchett, Chief Engineer of the Aurora Branch Rail Road which had opened its line connecting to the Galena & Chicago Union Railroad only three weeks earlier, illustrated in Piszkiewicz (page 150)
tied by black grid to September 1858 issue of The Monthly Monitor and People's Health Journal (front and back cover only), contained articles concerning diseases of the lungs, fine and attractive use
tied by "Chicago Ill. Sep 29 1859" datestamp to locally-addressed cover, embossed "Peoples' Gas Light and Coke Co." backflap with matching letterhead enclosed, very fine, this was Chicago's utility company and still operates today as Peoples Gas
perfect strike in blue on reverse of locally-addressed 1861 cover, franked with 1857 1c Blue tied by blue "Chicago Ills Aug 27" datestamp, additional blue Chicago backstamp as often seen on incoming mail, extremely fine, only two examples of this handstamp are known on drop letters mailed three days apart (August 27 and 30, 1861), a remarkably attractive cover made even more noteworthy as August 27 was the last day of validity for the 1857 issue in Chicago, illustrated in Piszkiewicz (page 152)

cover initially franked with 2c Brown Bank Note for local delivery, tied by black Maltese cross, readdressed to Green Bay, Wisconsin with a 3c Green Bank Note added, postmarked Chicago August 7 and delivered the following day, very fine, local delivery letters such as this that were forwarded are very rare
approximately 56 covers with 1c or 2c frankings for local delivery, begins with 1c 1857 and 1861, nine Black Jack covers, wide variety of "Chicago Blues" mostly identified by Berg number, also note O75 on triple-rate cover, generally fine to very fine, an interesting group which details the development of the delivery division in Chicago
three-line circular handstamp in red on large part 1851 printed circular, additional red "Chicago Ill. Jul 8" and "Paid" handstamps, addressed to St. Louis, Missouri, fine strike, the unique example of this distinctive handstamp, illustrated in Piszkiewicz (page 163)
complete strike on printed circular from the Land Office of the Illinois Central Railroad Company dated January 10, 1855, addressed to Clarence, New York, light even toning, fine and rare example of this distinctive marking, illustrated in Piszkiewicz (page 164)
position 99L1L, two huge margins, in at right and bottom, tied by black grid to cover to Exeter, Illinois, cornercard for "Mooers & Richards, Commission, Produce, and Dealers in Provisions", very fine and choice
position 3L1L with sheet margin at top and mostly full margins at sides, tied by "Chicago Ill. May 17" datestamp to folded real estate circular with recent land sale prices, addressed to Detroit, Michigan, slightly stained filefold away from stamp, fine
