black exchange datestamp (Clarke 600) on folded letter from Montevideo, Uruguay dated December 4, 1855, carried on Royal Mail Steam Packet's Tay to Southampton, January 11 London transit, then by Collins Line Baltic from Liverpool to New York City, manuscript "24" rate from England corrected with rare "45" debit of Philadelphia (Clarke 591) for rate from Uruguay, very fine, the earliest known use of this handstamp
