    1, 1851 3d Red, single plus two 6d Slate violet on laid (Scott 2, fresh color) all tied on small envelope (includes original contents) addressed to Carnarvon, Wales by black target cancels and a red Montreal JU 20 1852 cds (short-paid 1d), backstamped Chester and Carnarvon arrival (JY 6), 1d large to huge margins, one 6d cut with the outer frame line at top, otherwise full to very wide margins, the cover skillfully repaired in the folds with 3d cleaned and pressed, one 6d tiny corner crease, still very attractive and of great rarity; the only known cover with both first issue laid-paper stamps; ex-Foxbridge, Richardson, Wilkinson, Hackmey, illustrated in Arfken, Leggett, Firby & Steinhart (p 209) and "Gems of Canadian Philately" (p 12)
