    "Camp Cass near Red Bluff Tehama Co California August 29th 1859" dateline on a letter enclosed in an envelope addressed to Indianapolis franked with 1857 10c Green Type III (33) tied by partial strike of "Red Bluff Cal Sep 3 (?)" cds with another strike at left, manuscript "Via Los Angeles", cover overall aging and with missing backflap, VG-Fine; letter from soldier's wife to cousin notes happiness of "tent life" in California compared to life in the city and extolling the virtues of the California flora and faunarnCamp Cass was located at Red Bluff, Tehama County. It was originally an American Fur Company post, but on May 26, 1859 Company A, 6th Infantry arrived to occupy the Camp until August 3, 1859. The detachment had left Camp Cass on September 7, in compliance with Special Department Orders No. 94, dated September 1, 1859.
