George T. Turner Philatelic Library, multi-colored illustrated book label for use in his library, dated 1958, Very Fine ephemera, a must for the devoted specialist.
R21c, 1862 4c Playing Cards, wonderfully fresh with rich color, attractive company handstamp, trivial short perf and light paper toning on reverse from hinging, Fine. (Scott $700).
R83c, 1863 $2 Probate of Will, vertical strip of three with "SEH/ July 5 1865" ms cancel, bottom perfs trimmed away, still fresh and F-VF; date coincides with the date the Lincon conspirators were convicted and the Secret Service began operating under the Treasury Dept (Scott $290 as used pair + single)
R85a, 1862 $3 Charter Party, three singles, one with blue handstamp, expect a few unobtrusive small flaws/faults, overall Very Fine appearing. (Scott $600).
R96a, 1862 $10 Green Probate of Will, imperforate, horizontal pair used on February 20, 1863 document (manuscript cancel) from the State of New York (alongside R91a, $5 Mortgage), small scissor cut at top (close to but not touching left stamp), left stamp four margins, right stamp touching at bottom, $5 Mortgage with vertical crease and tear at top, attached testimony bears R32a, 10c Bill of Landing; document with some trivial splitting along the folds, but still Very Fine appearingrnThis document is only the second recorded example of the 1862 $25 rate (for mortgages up to $3,000); this rate was reduced on March 3, 1863, leaving a very short window during which this rate was effective. This is also only the third document recorded with R96a; the other two known documents both bear single stamps.rnOnly 856 imperforate stamps were issued in December of 1862, and as few as four pairs are recorded (with no larger multiples known). The rarity of both the rate and this stamp on document make this a truly phenomenal showpiece and a must for any serious collector of 1st Issue revenue stamps.
