Feb 11, 1893" arrival duplex, Very Fine (Peters-Uota No. JSS-HS-1)rnJohn Samuel Smithies was Deputy Collector of Customs for Mahukona, also serving as Postmaster of Mahukona (1887-1902) until his death. He was born in 1832 in Newfoundland and in 1850 came to Honolulu for J.T. Waterhouse. In 1889, he was appointed Collector of Customs for Muhukona.
1890-1925, Hawaii Postal History Collection, about 69 covers + 47 colorful picture postcards in cover album, covers include 14 Kindom issues, note: #39, 44, 57, several 1894-99 issues with some town cancels, Pan-American 1c, 2c & 5c on cover to Germany (Honolulu cds), 5c Louisiana to Germany, good small banknote issues on covers/cards, 1902 issue combinations, good Wash-Franklin issues, some interesting destinations, note: Beriut, Germany. India, Japan, Switzerland (wrapper), cards mostly used, colorful native scenes, etc., also includes: used & unused U9 + unused U13 (all with flaws/faults, cat. $777 alone), expect some small stamp/cover flaws but overall F-VF, surely to please specialist.
