78, P1, 1882 2½c Ultramarine, 1886 1/8c Yellow green, Special printings, remarkably bright and vivid singles, the 2½c a distinctive Prussian blue versus the dull color of the issued stamp, crisp and bold impressions and immaculate white gum (versus the brownish gum applied to the issued stamps), a truly remarkable pair of items and wonderful exhibit showpieces, only two examples known of Scott 78 and this the unique example of P1

MeKeel's Weely Stamp News (April 21, 1924), as reprinted in the Philippine Philatelic Journal (1993), stated that Ferrars H. Tows believed that special printings were produced for some of the 1878 through 1882 issues. The stamps were markedly different from the regular printings, with vivid colors, dotted backgrounds (rather than lined), fine impressions, and very white gum. Tows believed that only one or two sheets were printed for the Spanish Royalty. Some stamps may have entered circulation.
