    1861 Stampless Cover Germany to the US by Closed Mail via England, "busy looking" folded letter addressed to Philadelphia; originated in Ebhausen (29/7 61 cds), then to Stuttgart (30 Jul cds) and travelling post office (backstamps) indicating Mainz to Cologne, the Aachen Exchange Office (31/7 5cts debit to U.S. cds) and bulked to be closed through England, opened on arrival in Portland where an Aug 18 30 (due) cancel applied, some deterioration along the left edge, some wear along the top edge and a horizontal file crease, Fine and interesting; postage breaks down Prussian inland (5c), Belgian transit (2c - the ms "2"), Sea and British transit (18c), U.S. inland postage (5c) for a total of 30c; travelled on the Allan Line's "Nova Scotia" which sailed from Liverpool Aug 1 and arrived Quebec Aug 13
