blue datestamp on 3c Pink entire to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 1863 docketing at left, very fine and fresh, a choice strike of this marking
blue circular datestamp ties 1861 3c Rose (65) to cover to Concord, New Hampshire, very fine strike and cover, illustrated in Piszkiewicz (page 32)
1866 black double circle datestamp on 3c Pink entire to Copenhagen, Denmark, black "New York Am. Pkt. 23" credit datestamp, Prussian and Danish crayon due markings, backstamps including Aachen transit and Copenhagen arrival, very fine and unusual supplementary mail use, illustrated in Piszkiewicz (page 41)
double circle datestamp in blue ties two 1861 3c Rose (65, perforation tip staining) to 1866 cover to Newburgh, New York, very fine strike and cover, an attractive double-rate supplementary mail use, illustrated in Piszkiewicz (page 39)
small group of 17 covers from 1860 to 1864, includes 2c Black Jack on circular rate cover, illustrated cover for "Wheeler & Wilson's Sewing Machines" with blue cut cork denoting difficulty with delivery, "Due 3" straight-line and circled markings, "Held for Postage" in oval on reverse of partial cover, advertising cover for "New York Life Insurance Company" with "NB" initial postmark, and pair of November 15, 1863 covers, one with "RA" initial postmark and one without, proving that this was the last day of use of this postmark, some small faults but generally a fine group, worth close inspection
collection of approximately 300 covers in two binders, includes early real estate/land agent cornercards, 1859 illustrated Richmond House cornercard, 1860 Illinois Central Railroad cover, early star die entires, 1862 Briggs House cover with enclosure, October/November 1862 black postmarks, 1863 "Seeds and Farming Implements" illustrated advertising cover, ca. 1867 carrier backstamp, 1869 pair of Black Jacks on cover, Pictorials including 2c, 3c, and 6c, 1871 "Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad" datestamps, negative "E" cancellation on cover to Montgomery Blair, multicolored "National Printing Co." covers, attractive advertising throughout, interesting contents, many different postmarks as identified in the Piszkiewicz book, and much more, some mixed condition to be expected but generally fine to very fine or better, this collection formed much of the basis of Len Piszkiewicz's research and as such serves as a very important holding for the Chicago postal historian, a wealth of information to be gained from close examination
