"Erivan" Collection Part IX and Canal Zone Stamps and Covers
Our June sales include Part IX of the "Erivan" Collection of United and Confederate States Postal History and a catalogue of Canal Zone stamps and covers featuring the collections of James W. Crumpacker and Paul F. Ammons.
mint pair with left stamp the error, partial selvage showing additional "Canal", lightly tropicalized gum, fine and attractive, only 30 examples of this error were produced and of those only 10 show the additional partial overprint at left, 1992 Philatelic Foundation certificate (Scott $900)
two panes from the lower left corner of sheet B (positions 49-52, 57-60, 65-68), imperforate margin between, punch hole and pencil notation on gum as always, few trivial separated perforations, very fine and rare with just 48 panes produced, ex-American Bank Note Company

complete unexploded booklet of two panes, red plate number F6569 on front cover, bottom right stamp of top pane re-attached and torn, back cover broken apart, otherwise fine and extremely rare with just a few surviving examples of this booklet, 1991 Philatelic Foundation certificate (Scott $1,800 for individual panes does not adequately portray the rarity of a complete booklet)

used with June 23, 1934 Gatun duplex, addressed to Beloit, Wisconsin, very fine and attractive, a rare used entire (UPSS $500)
vertical pair with 9¼ mm spacing (38.B), tied by April 20, 1918 Balboa duplex to Coveleski cover to Ancon, clean and fresh, slightly reduced at left, otherwise very fine, only 10 examples of this error were produced with just one other cover known, an extraordinary rarity (Scott $2,250)
vertical pair with "Canal Zone" overprint in bottom margin, tied by indistinct January 7, 1919 duplexes to locally-addressed Coveleski cover, very fine and unique on cover, this error was taken from the bottom row of the sheet that had the overprint omitted on the top row (38a) and as such only 10 examples exist
single used alongside normal 1912 2c Vermilion & black (39) and 1915 10c Orange & black (45) on March 5, 1916 registered cover from Ancon to Detroit, Michigan, backstamped Ancon and Cristobal, very fine and extremely rare on cover
