Our January 2023 sales include the "Erivan" Collection of United and Confederate States Postal History Part VIII, as well as a general sale of United States and worldwide stamps, covers, and collections.
two oversized binders and several additional folders of material, mostly WWII-era but a bit earlier and later, a huge variety of posters, certificates, magazines, advertisements, covers, stamp albums, and even sheet music, mostly very fine, a wonderful collection which would take many years to duplicate, the ideal basis for a collection or exhibit demonstrating the cultural prevalence of savings stamps and bonds, viewing highly recommended to understand the scope of this lot, mostly ex-Beutel
attractive mint and used collection in mounts in a White Ace album with every space filled, overprints on Panama mostly used but a few better mint including 1, 2, 15 and 46 (all with photocopies of certificates), also includes used 3 and 46, U.S. overprint sets mint 4-7, 70-81 and 84-95 (last two complete to $1), most issues from 1924 onwards mint and never hinged from 1931, other highlights include C2 never hinged, O8 and CO1-12 mint, CO14 cancelled to order as issued, nice selection of postal stationery with U14 mint and UX5 used, postage dues, official seals, precancels and a few covers round out the collection, fine to very fine or better, solid and worth review, owner's Scott catalogue value $11,500+
small box filled with dealer/auction house cards, mostly better individual items, some of the more important include 1872 3c Rose (3) mint bock of four and strip of three, 1873 4c Dull blue (4) mint block of four, 1874 8c Lilac & orange (9) mint block of 21 with two inverted frames, 1874 10c Blue & brown (10) mint block of four, and 1905 1fr-5fr St. Thomas Harbor (37-39) mint with inverted watermarks, plenty of paper and printing varieties identified throughout, generally fine to very fine, an extraordinary accumulation being offered intact, viewing necessary for the specialist in Danish West Indies
six never hinged singles, each cut with large portions of the adjoining stamps or margin, few small faults including scuffs and inclusions, all extremely fine appearance, four stamps with 2021 PSE certificates (Scott $120)
single with Honolulu datestamp, "goose" somewhat obscured by cancel but still instantly recognizable as this popular and collectible variety, very fine and attractive (Scott $350)
pair and single used alongside 1877 $10 Reddish brown & green (R5) pair and single on large part 1903 document regarding land acquisition of Oahu College, very fine and scarce (Scott $405 as singles)
on stock cards and sheets, a bit of duplication amongst the more common issues, some better items throughout including (all unused/mint) 34, 46, 47, 48, O1, O2, O3, and R15, some stamps tropicalized/stuck down due to humidity, mostly fine to very fine, a wonderful opportunity for the dedicated collector to give this lot a careful inspection
approximately 30 items including both inbound and outgoing covers, we note 31 on cover to Hilo, UX1 used Hilo to Honolulu, UX2a mint (mounting residue), UX5 mint, UX6 mint, UX9 used Honolulu to Scotland, UY2r mint (crease), and 1850s incoming cover to Honolulu from Connecticut (faulty), some mixed condition to be expected, close inspection highly recommended
includes several hundred stamps (nearly all Pictorial Issue) sorted in glassines, as well as several dozen postcards mostly from Hawaii and Japan, bit of additional material including Disney stamp album, mixed condition but well worth a close inspection, this material came from a stamp shop in Hawaii and there's a lot of potential here for exciting discoveries
complete sheet of 12x16 stamps (192) with no horizontal perforations, never hinged and very fine, an extraordinary and eye-catching complete sheet of this rare error which would be ideal for exhibition, the Scott Catalogue only lists vertical pairs imperforate between but does not list horizontally-imperforate pairs, as the former this sheet would catalogue $21,600, ex-General Harry Hill Bandholtz
complete mint 1c-50c (10c Type I) plus 10c Special Delivery, mostly fine to very fine, an attractive set (Scott $438.25)
